About Me

Hey there, I’m Janna.

I have 14 years of yoga practice and almost 1,000 hours (and counting!) of teacher + yoga therapy training.

I started Open Mat Movement because I am passionate about supporting people in finding their own practice that works for their bodies, minds, and busy schedules!

I found yoga in college and marveled at being able to touch my toes for the first time. Living in India, the birthplace of Yoga, taught me that it is so much more than a movement practice. Because I am a lifelong Buddhist, my classes also incorporate breath work, mindfulness, and other meditative elements to help you feel peaceful and balanced from the inside out.

As someone who has experienced chronic tightness and pain due to old injuries, I understand the need to respect our body’s natural range of motion and safety signals. My philosophy emphasizes teaching you to listen to your body in order to nourish it.

My Yoga Therapy training informs my ability to assess your needs holistically and always in collaboration with you. My yoga teacher training enables me to create anatomy informed, out of the box classes for any energy level, mood, and ability.

I hope Open Mat Movement can be a place of refuge when you’re weary or burned out. My classes can be a remedy for tight muscles and tense minds. Whether in a group setting or one on one, I am passionate about helping you find the practice that works for YOU!

Yoga is the place I go to build confidence, strength, mobility, and to prevent injury. I can’t wait to share that with you!
